6 months later
These samples of Maxwax-treated gum (and untreated), were exposed to weathering for 6 months.
Note how the Maxwax-treated side of the timber still repels water after 6 months.
4 months later
After an additional 4 months, the samples were promptly removed from the rain and allowed to dry for 15 minutes. It was observed that the treated ends dried out much faster (at the bottom) than the untreated ends, attributed to the reduced water absorption during exposure to the weather.
In the end
Afterwards, they were permitted to fully dry out. Notice the significantly reduced amount of cracking in the ends that had been treated with Maxwax. It's crucial to keep in mind that in this experiment, only the upper surfaces of the samples were treated.
We typically advise treating ALL surfaces, especially the ends where absorption is highest, when applying Maxwax for the best protection.
